Doing our bit for the world

Doing our bit… We live in a very beautiful place. This makes you consider your impact on the way you live and the environment. Since we opened, all those moons ago, we’ve always been conscious of our actions. So, whilst it’s very topical at the moment, we like to think that we’ve tried to do our bit and you, as our guests, have also been a part of this. From our very beginning we’ve had all of the following in place, borne out of environmental reasons: In the breakfast room: We have never used plastic sachets of sauce; We put sugar

Food Festival Fun

We’re already planning our annual trip to the St Ives Food & Drink Festival which takes place between Friday 11th to Sunday 13th May 2018. It has proved so popular that there are three days of events this year rather than two. MasterChef winner Jane Devonshire will be one of the celebrity chefs along with Great British Bake Off champion Frances Quinn. A host of other high-class chefs from Cornwall will be demonstrating their delicious dishes and there will be the artisan food and drink market with it’s wide range of traders, along with some great live music. We can’t

Movers & shakers in St Ives in 2018

Things change and plenty of shops & eateries have done so here too in the past year, so we thought it might be an idea to take a closer look at the town we love and share the openings and closures. New on the scene : Cheese on Coast, a new opening on Fore Street, a couple of doors before John’s the wine merchant, selling, yes, you guessed it, CHEESE. And all things related. Including cheese popcorn, which does sound a bit weird but is tasty, think popcorn with a hint of cheese. @ – Applied arts & antiques. Located

It’s Cornish Pasty Week

As today marks the end of the inaugural Cornish Pasty Week (26 February – 3 March 2018), we’ve found the prefect excuse to revisit the the majority of our pasty sellers in town. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it. Plus, you may have heard, we were snowed in for over a day down here in snowy St Ives, so it was fate that we had stocked up on a number of pasty’s to get us through those tough times. Nowhere in Cornwall was safe from the ‘Beast from the East’ snowy weather front. The home of

A New Year, a new room

Having seen in the New Year in the usual St Ives style (where only fancy dress will do), we are well underway with a re-vamp to our lovely room 1. The only thing that won’t change is that fantastic view out to the bay! The room is being remodelled to make the most of the space as those of you who have stayed in room 1 will know, the layout we inherited was not of our choice! So, we’ve taken it right back and it feels like we are not only improving the room but restoring the house to how

Super Saturday and Santa

So, it was Super Saturday on the 2nd December in St Ives and Santa arrived on the lifeboat (on the high tide at 3pm). However, this year, he took us by surprise and he was on time (!) so we missed him. As most visitors to Cornwall know, time here is relative and we have a thing called ‘Dreckly. This is the Cornish for mañana. The plan was to pop in to the Pool Club and run out when the flare indicating his appearance in the harbour was sent up. Well the flare must have gone off and no-one in
